Uterine Fibroid

A uterine fibroid is one of the most widespread kind of (not cancerous) tumor in a woman′s uterus or the womb. These fibroids expand along with the uterine wall. They might grow as a solitary tumor or may be in clusters. These uterine fibroids can cause pelvic pain, extreme menstrual bleeding, and frequent urination.

The uterine fibroids are generally very slow growing tumors made from fibrous tissue and the muscle connected to the wall of the uterus. They come into sight and breed in women during their child bearing years.

The tumor might vary in size starting as a pinhead to the tip of a grapefruit. When many fibroids are there then the size of uterus might increase to any dimension and may imitate a pregnancy.

  • About 25% of women observe such kind of growth and this is therefore a leading reason for hysterectomy i.e. removal of the uterus.
  • One out of every 5 women over the age of 35 years has a uterine fibroid.
  • These fibroids are created in muscle tissues of the uterus. They are capable of growing into the uterine cavity, in the thickness of uterine wall, even on the surface of uterus into the abdominal cavity.
  • Although these tumors are called as fibroids, but this term is confusing since they have muscle tissue, but not fibrous tissue.
