Re: Healthy snacks for kids!
My son loved the channa & fruit chaat. Will try out the dhokla's next-it feels good to see kids eat snacks that are healthy!!!!
Thank you for the ideas :)
While it is important to keep children away from junk food, the suggested recipes are not succesful. Am aware of many parents in the same dilemma. First thing they try are options like upma, salad etc. It does not work. Salads are any ways part of meals and cannot be presented as snacks.
Here are some healthy snack options for kids:
1)Fresh fruits
2)Carrot sticks with a little peanut butter/almond butter/hummus.
3)Fruit chaat
4)Channa/corn chaat
5)Popcorn/"Light" microwave popcorn (made with very little oil)
6)Idli/dhokla
7)Fruit smoothies (http://www.desidieter.com/popular-recipes/soups-beverages/banana-berry-fruit-smoothie.html)
8)Cut fruits in Greek yogurt/thick curd.
9)Vegetable upma, dosa, bread upma, khandvi.
10)A handful of mixed dried fruits and nuts.
Basically avoid fried foods(like chips, samosas,chivdas/farsans/namkeens), snacks which have too much sugar(like cakes, candies, cookies) and junk food like pizzas/burgers.
