Gestational diabetes is a condition which shows increased blood sugar levels during second or third trimester of pregnancy. A study published in American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology suggests that a womans' risk of developing diabetes during pregnancy can be identified up to 7 yrs before she get pregnant. Following are the risk factors for gestational diabetes -
1.Over weight or obesity
2. high blood pressure
3. high cholesterol
4. family history etc
the study suggests that woman with these risk factors can be screened and lower the chances of developing diabetes during the pregnancy.

Diabetes has genetic influences and we do inherit our parent's gene.
Good news is early prevention and lifestyle modifications can delay the onset of the disease.
