INGREDIENTS
Urad washed   80 g (160 g soaked dal)
Ginger   1" piece
Onion   10 g
Water   1/3 Cup (double the volume of dry dal taken)
Salt   1 tsp
Red chilli   1/4 tsp
Cumin Seeds   1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder   1/4 tsp
Garam masala   1/4 tsp
Fat   2 tsp
Coriander leaves   few for garnishing
METHOD
  • Pick, wash and soak the dal for 1/2 hour. Chop ginger and onion.
  • Heat fat, add chopped ginger and onion and fry till golden brown. Add cumin seeds and rest of the spices. Fry for a minute. Add soaked dal and water (use the water used for soaking).
  • Cook on slow fire till water evaporates and dal is tender and dry with grains separate.
  • Serve hot garnished with chopped coriander leaves.
