Prep Time Cook Time Serves



Mutton   100 g
Ginger   1/4" piece(5 g)
Garlic   2 flakes (5 g)
Rice   100 g
Water   double of the amount of rice by volume
Onion   50 g
Cumin Seeds   1/4 tsp
Black cardamom   1
Clove   1
Cinnamon   1 small stick
Salt   1 tsp
Fat   3 tbsp
Bay leaf   1


  • Clean, wash and soak the rice for half an hour.
  • Pressure cook mutton with ginger, garlic, salt and sufficient water for 10 minutes, Strain mutton and keep the extract.
  • Heat fat in heavy bottomed pan, add whole spices and thinly sliced onion. Fry till the onion is light brown in colour. Add boiled mutton pieces and fry for a few minutes on slow fire.
  • Drain the rice (reserving the water) and add to the onions and fry for 2 to3 minutes more.
  • Add measured amount of water (use the water in which rice has been soaked) and salt. Boil.
  • Reduce the heat and cook covered till done i.e. when water dries up.
  • Serve hot.
