It occurs when hydrochloric acid, an important constituent of digestive juices, makes its way upward to enter the food pipe from the stomach. Overeating or binging can lead to a burning sensation behind the breast bone and sometimes in the stomach also. Acidity is caused by a number of reasons like having hot and spicy food, strong chocolates, intake of alcohol or excessive intake of coffee and tea and undergoing prolonged medication. Excessive exposure to sun can also lead to hyperacidity.
