| Arteriosclerosis or 'thickening of the walls of the arteries' has become a common aliment of modern times. When there is excessive cholesterol in the blood, it builds up in the form of plaque on the walls of arteries that carry blood to the heart. This plaque narrows the arteries and can slow down or block blood flow due to which the heart gets less oxygen. With not enough oxygen available to the heart, there may be chest pain (Angina pectoris), heart attack (Myocardial infarction) or even death in extreme conditions.

- Sign of inadequate blood supply which generally appears first in the legs.
- Numbness in the feet, cramps and pains in the legs, even after light exercise.
- Patient may have sharp pains, characteristics of angina pectoris.
- High blood pressure.
- Sometimes, loss of memory.

Arteriosclerosis
Lemon peel is one of the most effective home remedies for arteriosclerosis. Take the peel of two lemons and cut them finely. Allow them to stand in warm water for 15 hours. Take a teaspoon at the interval of every four hours during the day.

- Avoid beef, pork, poultry, cheese, butter and all other form of dairy products.
- Soluble fiber from beans, oats and fruit pectin has characteristics of lowering cholesterol levels. People with elevated cholesterol can eat more of these high soluble fiber foods.
- Obesity increases the risk of heart disease. Maintain a healthy weight.
- Smoking is linked to cause heart disease. So, if you smoke, get rid of it immediately.
- Eat wheat, rice, raagi, jowar, whole and sprouted pulses, green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits and moderate sugar.
