Refined flour (Maida)   30 g
Butter   20 g
Castor sugar   30 g
Egg   1/2
Baking powder   1/4 t
Vanilla essence   1 drop


  • Prepare the cake tin by greasing and dusting with flour or by lining with paper.
  • Sift the flour and baking powder together two to three times.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together in bowl till light and fluffy using a wooden spoon.
  • Separate the egg yolk and whites.
  • Add egg yolk to the above mixture and beat will.
  • Beat the egg white to a stiff peak stage.
  • Now add the flour and egg white alternately into the above mixture using cut and fold method. Add vanilla essence.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared cake tin and bake in a moderate oven (350 degree F) for 20-25 minutes (or till a tooth pick or knife inserted into it comes out clean.
  • Remove the cake from tin. Cool on wire rack before cutting.
