Yahoo Answer(s)

Hi all. Am on my 4th month of pregnancy, haven'tt really added weight and i want to add just enough for the baby. am really trying to eat healthily for my baby and i avoid fast foots as much as i can...but can i binge on the fries at least once a week, i crave them so.....would really appreciate advice from mums, would be mums and anyone who knows how to manage weight during pregnancy.it's my first time.

Answer: There's no reason to obsess. You NEED to be gaining weight -- and if you're agonizing over the calories in every bite you put in your mouth, you won't gain the weight that baby needs (remember, it's not just the weight OF the baby, but blood volume and fluid and fat stores for breastfeeding) and you'll make yourself crazy. A serving of french fries once a week is not a problem. EDIT: To clarify, you really need to gain way MORE than 10-15 pounds during pregnancy, unless you are already extremely obese. 10-15 pounds would barely cover the weight of the baby and placenta -- never mind everything else. Most sources recommend aiming for 25-30 pounds or so, but if you gain a bit more than that on a healthy diet, not a problem. (Far better to eat healthy and be sure that you and baby get all you require, than to count every calorie in hopes of limiting gain, and end up malnourished. (Back in the '40's and '50's many docs tried to limit moms to that 10-15 pounds, not understanding that athey DID need to gain fat stores and blood volumes. The result was a lot of women stuggling to stick to rigid diets -- and a lot of low birthweight babies.
