Prep Time Cook Time Serves



Whole pulse   60 g
Ginger   1" piece (chopped)
Water   3 Cup
Salt   1 tsp
Turmeric powder   1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds   1/4 tsp
Garam masala   1/4 tsp
Onion   1/4 small (chopped)
Tomato   1/2 small (chopped)
Fat   2 tsp


  • Pick, clean and wash the whole pulses.
  • Soak the dal preferable overnight.
  • Add dal, ginger, salt and turmeric powder in a pressure cooker with water. Pressure cook.
  • Check the consistency and adjust if necessary by adding boiling water and let it simmer for another 10 minutes on low heat. Stir frequently.
  • Heat fat, fry chopped onion till golden brown, add chopped tomato and fry a little. Add cumin seeds, garam masala and red chilli powder. Pour this baghar over the dal and serve hot in bowl.
